<itunes:summary>Prometheus Radio Theatre, a group of experienced Baltimore-area Fan actors, writers and directors, is embarking on what we like to think is a bold, new path (then again, maybe we're just deranged!) We're bringing original, SF radio dramas to Fan audiences at area conventions, and we plan to offer said dramas via CD and streaming audio in the near future. Our current project is an episodic series, The Arbiter Chronicles, which author Steve Wilson describes as "a sort of Hornblower the Vampire Slayer in Space." "Arbiters" tells the tale of young midshipmen (and women) in a future Navy, when the human race has expanded off earth, and things ain't as bright and cheerful as some might expect.</itunes:summary>

A Gift of Gold

At Christmas time, we think a lot about traditions of the past, and about those who came before us. The group of creative people who put together a fanzine called Contact back in the 1970s are some of the forbears of today's Prometheus Radio Theatre. Many of those writers and artists directly contributed to our being where we are today.

It seems appropriate then, that we take some time right now to feature a selection from A Contact Christmas, published in 1979. Steve reads "A Gift of Gold," by Beverly J. Volker and Nancy J. Kippax.

Just a bit longer...

The bad news is that the Friday 'cast didn't make it up over the weekend. I WAY overextended myself at Farpoint with two shows, running the podcasting track, and helping out at the Art Show. Never went to bed before 0400, and was sad to miss J.R. Blackwell and Jared Axelrod, who had to go home sick.

The good news is we had a BLAST hanging with Jack Mangan, Tee Morris, The Command Line, Martha Holloway and Paul Fischer, Marc Bailey and Heather Welliver.

The best news of all is that I got interviews with Richard Hatch, Harve Bennett, Suzie Plakson and Ron Glass, which will be airing in the coming weeks. We'll start with Richard's, just as soon as I can put it together. Hopefully tomorrow. Thanks for hanging in there!

SuperHuman Times - Coming This Fall

So, we told you that we'd be presenting a new dramatic series along with more episodes of The Arbiter Chronicles for the 2006 - 2007 season.

So, just to whet your appetite a little, here's the scoop on our new offering from Baltimore playwright Lance Woods...

PROMETHEUS RADIO THEATRE presents
SUPERHUMAN TIMES: The Podcast Series

"Welcome to a world where powerful champions of Good protected humanity from dark forces of Evil.

"A world where Good triumphed over Evil, leaving the remaining superheroes and supervillains with ... well, not much to do, actually.

"These are the stories of extraordinary people with extraordinary abilities leading ordinary lives among the humans they protected, as they all find themselves ... in SuperHuman Times."

SuperHuman Times gets its title from a national magazine covering this present-day world where superhumans are "only" human. For some, it's a challenge; for others, an honor; for others, a tragedy.

It's not that everyone in this world has super-powers and isn't special, or that humans have taken superheroes in stride, or that those heroes are forbidden to use their powers by a government.

It's just that, in this world, the superheroes did their jobs too well.

They rid the world of supervillains. All of them. That's made it easier for human authorities to deal with regular criminals themselves.

So, what does a superhero do in a world without supervillains? How does a superhuman find a place in human society ÃÂÃÂÂÃÂÂ and how do humans live with them on an equal footing?

Can they?

The first SuperHuman Times story, "True North," introduces readers to this world

-and how it came to be

-through the eyes of Howard North, an ordinary working stiff who's just been told that his late parents had super-powers. So, why doesn't he? Why has the son of two superhumans been a completely normal, human "freak" throughout all of his unremarkable life?

He's about to find out ...

Among the other people we'll meet in future SuperHuman Times stories...

- A family of sorceresses/security experts whose magic may not be enough to prevent someone from committing "the perfect crime."

- A fast-healing action film star who gets a chance to prove his true acting talent when he assumes the role of a nerdy admirer

-one who's assumed the actor's debonair onscreen personality.

-A Times columnist who pursues the story of a successful human gallery artist as she attempts to break into an industry that superhumans have practically taken over: comic-book publishing.

-A professor cursed with the ability to not only speak with the dead, but to speak for them

-at their funerals, with devastating results.

-Two superhuman arch-enemies who must join forces to find a missing psychiatrist

-and the secrets he carries about his many superhuman patients.

-A team of human TV "legendbreakers" that attempts to prove/disprove the validity of such superhuman urban myths as. "Can you really gain super-powers from [insert terrestrial or cosmic radiation of choice here]?"*

-A human detective whose latest client is an indestructible woman who wants him to find whoever's trying to kill her.

-And, hopefully, many more, because, like the motto on the magazine says -

"Everyone's story is a story for our Times."
